Top 10 female characters in Disney who break the tradition of Disney princesse

In Disney the most traditional females are the princesses in long fancy dresses who fall in love with a handsome prince and so on.

That is not who we are talking about here! This top 10 is about strong females who break the traditions of what we know as disney princesses.

These women are strong, independant and they are not afraid to stand up for themselves.

I will not be counting any external franchises owned by Disney, and I will also stick to Disney animated movies, so no shows or real action movies.

So let's get to it!

10: Mulan from Mulan

She dressed as a man to join the army instead of her old father.

It was hard as she obviously wasn't in the same physical shape as the men in her group.

She fought through the struggle though and ended up coming out top of her class.

The reason she is so low on the list is because the second movie kind of ruined it for her.

All this happened in the first movie, and then the sequel was basically just about her getting married.

She did fight some of the enemy in the sequel but her marrying her sergeant kind of put her in the damsel in distress role in my opinion.

9: Pocahontas from Pocahontas.

A strong native American woman protecting her forest and people from the british invaders who come in to disturb the peace of the nature.

Pocahontas is one of the first “Disney princesses” to break out of the traditional role, she does end up letting the british soldier charm his way into her heart and go to UK with him.

But she figures out his scheme in the sequel and ends up saving her village.

8: Tiana from The Princess And The Frog.

A poor woman from New Orleans trying to work her butt off so she can save some money to open her own restaurant.

That in itself should be enough to put her on this list, but there is more in a desperate attempt to get money she kisses a prince who was turned into a frog.

There is just one catch here, she is not a real princess so instead of the frog turning back into a prince Tiana turns into a frog.

This is by far one of my favorite disney characters, the southern accent makes the movie unique and it takes a classic tale and totally spins it 180 degrees.

7: Kida From Atlantis The Lost Empire.

This is a great movie with alot of strong female characters so it is hard to find a contestant for this list between them.

Kida gets the spot for being a strong woman fighting for her city to stay out of the public eye because the people just want to live in peace,

She is the character that gave the biggest impression to me for being the ruler of her people and not taking crap from anyone.

Atlantis The Lost Empire is a very underrated movie in my opinion because it flopped, so if u did have not seen it yet I can highly recommend it.

6: Merida from Brave.

What do you do when ur dad tells you that u cant help protect your village?

You sneak off and do it anyway, Merida is one of my favorite Disney bad asses, she is savage with a bow and show that stereotypes and gender roles are there to be confronted and proven wrong.

5: Alice from Alice In Wonderland.

When the world is gray and boring you chase the rabbit down the rabbit hole.

At Least that is what Alice did, she is tired of always being the pretty young woman and seek adventure and she finds that in wonderland.

Throughout the movie she shows that she is much more than a pretty girl in a fancy dress, she shows braveness, cleverness and get a chance to live out her imagination and be a kid.

4: Anastasia from Anastasia.

Anastasia is a orphan who has escaped during a civil war in Russia with her grandmother.

After the war has settled the queen is looking for her rightful descendant to the throne, but it is hard with many people claiming to be princess Anastasia and with the real princess not being accepted into the castle due her poor looks and lack of etiquette.

This is one of the saddest Disney movies I have ever seen and that is what makes it so good, the movie is based on real time events and it was a very bold move for Disney to take such a sad story in but I think they did it to perfection.

3: Moana from Moana.

The sea is calling Moana, but she is princess of the island she has a responsibility to stay and help her people.

But when everything starts to go wrong she knows what she needs to do, she goes against her family’s warnings and go out on the sea to find the DemiGod who is the only person to save the island.

2: Jane from Tarzan.

She is the uppersate of any stereotype u might have about british women.

Don't let the fancy dress fool you this is a woman who is not afraid to get dirty which is what Tarzan sees in her.

She joins her father on a trip to africa to document monkeys but find something way better.

Jane is one of those characters that are not afraid to act silly and be herself.

1: Esmeralda from Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

Esmeralda is a poor gypsy woman living on the streets of Notre Dame, she sees the beauty in Quasimodo who is the behated hunchback who is banished to live an eternity  alone in the church tower to ring the bell.

Esmeralda sees past his appearance and free him from his enslavement in the tower, and together they fight against his master the evil Jehan, Esmeralda gets framed for murder, tricked into love, has hitmen sent after her to kill her.

Yet she still stands strong and show she is stronger and wiser than Jehan.

So we have finally reached the end of my list, I love every single character on this list and it was so hard to rank them, so plz dont be mad if ur favorite character is ranked low.

You are welcome to share ur own list or opinion about my list in the comment section.
