[DOF] How to Keep a Conversation Going

Talking is very simple yet it takes a lot to be a good speaker. You have to consider many factors in order for you to be effective and interesting. The conversation obviously doesn't rely on you alone but of course, you need to play a role in keeping the conversation from diverting to the awkward silence we all hate.

The list below contains tips which can help you in making new friends. Don't be afraid to step out there! Tell anxiety to back off and embrace the fact that you're going to improve!

THE LIST
(wow, it sounds like it's a film)

"Honesty is the best policy." Do you remember that saying? Honesty is obviously very important in conversations. You don't have to pretend for a person to like you. If the other person really wants to be with you and talk, he'll accept you as you. Besides, why force something impossible to happen? Dude, no matter what you do, you will always have a hater. You can't please everyone. Nobody's perfect, okay?

If you want the other person to keep talking, be polite and listen! Don't just nod or reply without even analyzing what he said. Give honest opinions and replies. If you barely know what he's talking about, ask him! Don't pretend like you know a lot. Asking him can also make your conversation more beneficial and entertaining so it's not really a loss!

DO NOT BE EGOTISTICAL. If you want the conversation to last, don't just talk about yourself. Get the other person involved! Ask him questions and talk about something you both like!

Share your experiences if you feel like you're running out of topics to talk about (don't do it excessively though). You can share stories and be talkative but you also have to keep in mind that you're talking to someone. Like what I said before, get the other person involved!

First of all, you guys are not in an interview. Don't ask too many questions if you want to keep the conversation chill and nice. Be aware of the other person's emotions too because you might ask something too personal. Let him say things without you asking. It takes time to build trust so don't be sad if he doesn't want to share some stuff, okay?

Go for something that can serve as your common ground. This will help the other person become more comfortable with talking. It'll also be easier for you guys to understand each other due to the fact that you both know the topic you're talking about.

To be honest, the people who reply like you're nothing are the worst ones. Don't be like them. Be sincere with what you're saying. Get in the mood!

 THE MOST IMPORTANT:

Practice makes perfect, right? Try and try until (you die?) you succeed.

Thank you for taking the time to read the long list! I hope you were able to absorb helpful tips!
