In UN

-Russ

I hope everyone is aware that, when I say UN, the first thing that ought to come to mind is “community” for, not only being thrown out by our Main Founder, Cyndii—I digress, but also due to shaping itself in order to become one. But what does it mean to be in the UN community and what separates UN to other agencies in Habbo?

The UN Community.

Before we delve into matters, we must first discuss the definition of a community. Just so people are aware, United Nations—or UN, in short—is comprised of individuals of different ethnicities, races, languages, living in different parts of the world. When people say “community”, one would often think the literal term which implies a group of people living in the same placewhich is not wrong per se, but a community need not a similarity in terms of its physical aspect, since, not only this “community” exists virtually, but other elements are seemingly involved which makes us feel like a community; probing isn’t the only way to assess what defines a community, but rather, to assess the very essence of it, which is having a sense of belonging. As humans, we are social beings despite how awkward one can be since man is, by nature, a social animal2. Even if we elude to this very idea of socialization, one does not simply live under a rock nor a cave, thus making socializing inevitable; this necessitates us to socialize, and altogether, forms a community which is linked to UN where everyone feels a sense in which we all belong to a same group. That being said however, there are cases where one or a couple would feel alienated; this isn’t uncommon, for one can, or might, or even attempt to commit actions which the community would find offence from. As stated, that is not uncommon; to err is humansince we are bound to our own will, which is purely subjective thus it might offend others and be beneficial to some.

The Law.

As previously stated, humans are bound to their own intent either to build or destroy. This in turn can be a component where it benefits the community or becomes a plague that destroys it. So, in turn, the community must have a way to regulate itself in order to maintain the social equilibrium, and that is to legislate in order to prevent one from disrupting the community either through coercion or persuasion. The law is made to be abided, not neglected, and if an individual persists upon committing such actions against the community, then a consequence is a must; who among would persecute the verdict? One who is a part of the community but above in terms of social status whom maintains the status quo. One need not to be excluded from the community in order to control the community, this isn’t Plato’s The Republic. Isn’t it better if that person also belongs in the community since, not only has this person been in the community, but also, becomes the embodiment of the community from earning the majority’s trust and respect?

The Spectrum.

There should always be one to uphold the rules, since as stated before, there are bound to be some complications in which different ideologies and perspective clashes, and, would often bring discord and conflicts within the community. Of course, when one errs, one must be forgiven, but there exists a limit to everything. Thus, statuses are brought to insure stability in the community. Each and everyone in the community holds a position which enables one to do certain tasks and prove their worth by committing to the task given to them. In UN, we define them as ranks; this exist to solely imply one’s authority, but we know that, when one exercises their power, there would often be a setback; scorn and disdain often come when one upholds the rules, even more so when one feels oppressed because of one’s power. In theory, this only happens when:

  1. 1. Egos clash

  1. 2. Overuse/abuse of power, and

  1. 3. There is no need for power to be exerted.

This is not the case in reality however, for everyone is subjected to their perspective and opinions. So how can one deal with this pervading problem?

The Authorities.

Problems within the community are dealt by authorities (Foundation Team) to ensure equitable judgement and balance within the community. These set of individuals are chosen by a higher order to partake as authorities to maintain public order in the community under the premise of providing jurisdiction. The said individuals are not gods per se, but whom also abide the laws they exert for the sake of social equality, since, these individuals are also part of the community they manage. Apart from the fact where they hold significant authority, they are also your everyday people; what sets them apart are their responsibilities. Everyone has their own set of responsibilities to which they adhere to, and these responsibilities prepend in time, allowing one to bear more significance within the community only if they commit to it.

Conclusion.

What separates the UN community apart from other agencies is the fact that the spectrum is subtle, not suffocating. The authorities only exert their power when needed, and such oppression rarely occurs in the community, allowing everyone to be liberated since every individual bear no absolute significance to one another, enabling one to show a genuine identity. Bear in mind that despite allowing one to be liberated, one must also provide discretion, for public order is a must and must not be disrupted. Only when one disrupts public order can the authorities intervene. But apart from that, the UN community shows excellence in handling diversity in terms of culture and identities.
