[DOF] Advice and Second Opinions: Skincare Holy Grails

Hitting the age of 18; I thought I had to start with my skincare game. To have good skin until I grow old, I need to start soon while I’m younger than when it is too late. So I went ahead and researched a lot. I also incorporated the infamous Korean skincare routine although I didn’t go as far as 10 steps; skincare can be too expensive especially if you have to buy like 6-8 products at the same time.

Now, I’m not all that pro in skincare but I do love to do my research before jumping into trying out products. Currently my skincare now has jumped from maybe about 6-7 steps to 3. I have combination to oily skin, although leaning more towards oily. My skin is very sensitive, I breakout easily from trying out new products hence why I am very careful. I have had different holy grails overtime as products would work amazingly on my skin for a good few months to a year before it seems to just get too used to it that it doesn’t work anymore. So I change the products I use routinely.

In this thread I will be discussing about some of the skincare products I have loved and used in the past (and currently) that I greatly recommend for good skin days.

First of all, snail mucin skincare. Yes, snails. At first I was like, what? But trust me, they are really good stuffs. I have used a Korean brand called Benton and their snail skincare line (as well as their aloe together as a routine); I always woke up with bright, glowing skin the next day. It was also great with controlling my breakouts as I tend to be prone with breaking out but while using that, I only broke out when I was getting close to my time of the month. It does claim to help with breakouts and fading acne marks which I do believe worked greatly as I suffered a lot with acne before and it left quite a lot of acne marks which it helped even out. Moreover, Benton as a brand uses fresh and natural ingredients plus they don’t test on animals.

As already mentioned I have also used their aloe line which works amazingly as well. I used it together with their snail line and they definitely work so well together for better results. It is very moisturising and soothing to the skin, also promising to help even the skin tone which I believe it did because I had quite a lot of pigmented skin from hormonal acne and it has become quite even after overtime use.

I will have to admit that it is quite a pricey investment but their price range isn’t all that bad as you can find and buy them together and it tends to work out a bit cheaper, I think. Plus, I just closed my eyes when I bought it and thought that it’s an investment for my skin which is very important.

A cheaper alternate of Benton that I tried was Mizon which is another Korean brand and they have a snail skincare line too. I have tried their All in One Snail Repair Cream which I definitely will have to rave about although I did not really like their Snail Recovery Gel Cream. Despite the Recovery Gel having more Snail Mucin content percentage than the All in One Snail Repair Cream, I have read that apparently the Recovery Gel Cream does contain more alcohol in the ingredients. I’m not sure but when I use it I break out but when I skip it, my skin is fine. The recovery gel is supposed to be applied after the repair cream but because I broke out from it, I just skipped it overall. The All in One Snail Repair Cream does leave your skin looking bright and glowing the next day too and does help control breakouts although not as much as Benton as I do sometimes still end up having a spot or two from late, late nights. Nevertheless, for the price and its effectiveness; it’s definitely to try.

Currently, I am using La Roche-Posay Effaclar 3-Step Anti-Blemish System and it is just amazing. It is very simple and works a lot cheaper too as you can buy the three steps as a set and it lasted me months of using it. I have been using it for over a year now and I remember before I first began using it, I had a really bad breakout on my neck and chin and my skincare then couldn’t handle it at all. Maybe it stopped working already and didn’t have the same effect but it didn’t do anything on the spots at all. I had it for a good three months that I started to become so conscious of my neck so I tried La Roche-Posay and I cannot rave enough about it. It really is magical. It cleared my skin completely and has controlled my breakouts since then. I tend to breakout when I go on holidays to different countries too but these products have worked extremely well in terms of that. Although one thing I do not like about it is that it’s not really moisturising enough for them cold winter months. However, I just make sure to moisturise well enough in the morning as well as swap regime every now and again to another product that I will be talking about after.

So, the another product that I greatly love, and have mentioned that I will be talking about as a much, much simpler regime as an alternate to my current one is The Ordinary’s Rosehip Oil. It is a great moisturiser and has helped with brightening my complexion as well as controlling my breakouts. Although I won’t say it’s as effective as La Roche-Posay in controlling breakouts, it still does help with those spots that is ready to pop or has just popped. It’s like magical how it moisturises but dries the spot at the same time when I wake up. I just love waking up and then feeling that the spot is completely dry. It’s a great product and it’s also quite cheap considering it is pure Rosehip oil.
