The Carter's and the Pub
Both Lee and Whitney have been seen struggling to deal with the call centre worker's depression as Lee also is getting out payday loans to impress his now ex-wife with expensive items getting himself in debt only for his dad Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer to take the burden and get pub and the carters into debt further. An enraged Lee lashed out at his wife, accusing her of “humiliating” him on a night out. After his violent episode, Lee's dad advised him to leave the marriage before things got any worse, and Lee took his dad advice as heartbreaking scenes showed the character leaving Albert Square.
Attempting to repair their relationship, Lee and Whitney headed out for a Valentine's Day meal. After eating at Beale's, Lee made his excuses and said he was popping away for five minutes. However, he never returned and left Whitney to pay the bill. When she got home, Whitney found a note her husband had left her, telling her their marriage was over.
After Lee leaving Walford, Mick found it hard having to pay off the debts and run a pub, slowly Mick was drove to anger himself whilst the pub crumbled under his feet. Mick then ran off to Bolivia to help his daughter Nancy who is travelling the world with her boyfriend, Tamwar who had been ran over leaving Whitney still heartbroken, Shirley his mother and new arrival from Linda Carter, the landlady Woody played by Lee Ryan from boyband Blue. After so long a obnoxious Max Branning got Shirley into contact with some people to buy the pub's free hold. After being encouraged to sell the pub's free-hold to alleviate the family's financial pressure, Shirley was seen telling Tina, Whitney, Johnny and Woody that she was going to see Linda to talk about the possibility of selling up, and Linda agreed. However, it soon became apparent that Mick Carter had no idea what was happening when Shirley was seen forging his signature on the contract.
After excessive job hunting Denise comes up with nothing, she is then next seen in the Job Centre begging to be seen by someone only to be told to apply for Universal Credit online and to come back in a few days. A few days later Denise is seen by a guy advisor who then gives her more bad news saying she would have to wait to be paid for 10 weeks due to sanctions, but he kindly gives her a food bank voucher. There, to her surprise, she finds Cora Cross, Determined to intervene, she follows Denise outside and tries to offer her a £10 note - which she rejects out of pride. She's then seen storming of and breaking down in a nearby alley. As the pair find themselves in a confrontation, Denise loses her composure and can be seen slumped against a wall and weeping, which is no surprise given the amount of hardship she's been subjected to. Denise certainly hasn't been having the best of times recently, after she had a run in with the police after hitting school bully Keegan in the middle of the Square.
