Hello UN, it is me Raven, more likely known as R0UXE and being the movie enthusiast that I am in these past few days, I’ve been searching for movies to watch and come across a movie called Hidden Figures. It is a true-to-life story focusing on the three women of colour working for NASA namely: Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Katherine Johnson, the main protagonists, who served as the hidden figures to turn the space race between Russia and America, to America’s side. This movie tackles the obstacles people of colour (POC) and women in a “men’s field” has to tackle. In this film there is a portrayance of bathrooms for POC, a brown mug instead of white mug, a fight for the right to study in an "all-white school", a no-supervisor rule for the coloured group and even if the protagonist is the one who must be given credit for in the calculations in the space project, the credit is given to his co-worker, who is white.
I suggest the movie to everyone who would like to know the history of the space race, how the first women of NASA became one of the foundations for their first projects, and the disgusting truth of discrimination itself. Comment down below your thoughts if you have watched or is planning to watch the movie! I would also like to know any movie suggestion you have in mind, focusing on science and history because I’m a sucker for those two categories. Let’s get binge watching, everyone! Maybe we could host it with DOE, too!
I'll try and see if I can find that.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I have watched it! It's a great movie and an empowerment for us, females! Moreover, it tackles the racial and gender discrimation that happened years ago, which is why I think it really opens the young viewers of the movie -- that we, women, are also strong and independent!
As for movies, I think I am more inclined to animated ones because it could be viewed by all ages. So, what I really like in that field is: Kubo and the Two Strings. As for something that is portrayaed by real actors and actresses, I would recommend: Ender's Game!
