[DOF] Entertainment: Life and Death Row

I remember as part of one of my religious study (RS) classes we discussed and watched this documentation of prisoners and their life in death row. Funny enough, recently I have seen an advert of a programme about life in death row and it influenced me to make a thread about it. In my RS, we had a big debate whether it is fair to put someone who committed murder in death row. Is it justice to kill another who killed?

I’m kind of on the fence about it not gonna lie. I mean maybe if I have never seen the documentation I would have agreed like ‘yeah, okay, they deserve it’. But through their stay in the prison for years and years serving death row; they seem to reflect through their action and realise their wrong doings. That’s of course according to the documentation. Although at the same time, it’s a matter of they could be repenting because of their punishment. The punishment is what made them realise and sorry.

Some commits the crime without second thought of the cruelty it brings not only to the person whose life they ended but also the family. So the punishment of death itself is just fair. It’s a matter of you reap what you sow. But the prisoner does not only have their lives taken away but have to live behind cells for years and years repenting, which in some sense is right and wrong it seems. Sure, at least they get to suffer but why prolong it? Although the family of the person they killed have to suffer for prolonged period too.

But what if the family actually forgives them?

I know not many would have but there are some people who chooses to forgive instead of holding that grudge after seeing the person repent over their wrong doings. I mean sure, it doesn’t mean they are free to go out of the prison; I won’t even think of such thing. But taking a life for another’s life doesn’t seem to be right either. At some point at least.

What are your opinions about this? Comment down below your thoughts and opinions because I would love to hear them.

no one "deserves" to die. if

no one "deserves" to die. if i am to decide that a murderer deserves to die, then the murderer can decide that his victims deserve to die. if we are to reap all that we sow then the world will become blind and we will lose all human quality (love). putting someone in the chair doesnt change anything. it only makes the State a murderer and gives it more power. supporting capital punishment means supporting totalitarianism and police states. and it is not wrong to kill. in war, you get a medal from the State if you kill a lot of people

that's what I believe at the

that's what I believe at the same time too, killing someone who kills doesn't change anything. It doesn't change what's already done. But at the same time, if you think and put yourself in the situation who lost someone you love from being murdered; I don't think I'd still have the same opinion. I think I'd just feel like yeah, it makes it fair to take another life. When really it's not, because it doesn't really do anything or change anything.
