So I was in placement today, as I have been for the last five weeks and the following week coming up now; and I got to spend some time with the psychologist in the clinic. I wanted to see how they work although unfortunately the patient the psychologist was seeing did not turn up—which we later found out that she actually cancelled but we just didn’t know because of some mishaps. But while we were waiting, the psychologist was telling me many things to how they usually run sessions and what she was planning to do with the patient. Within the discussion, mindful thinking was brought up and it was something I have heard of before (many times) although don’t actually really know. So I asked and I liked the concept of it hence why I have decided to discuss about it now within this thread.
So, what is mindfulness or a mindful thinking?
Mindfulness is actually a sort of thinking where you pay more attention to the present moment rather than worrying about the past and the future. It is all about focusing your own thoughts and feelings to improve your own well-being. With a mindful thinking it is said that you can enjoy your life better and understand yourself better.
Now I know that our pasts shape us and for some, these pasts can be traumatic and it haunts them to the point that they grow some sort of anxiety over some matters or things and their behaviour is then affected as an outcome. For others, they grow anxious and stress about thinking about what should be in the future and how to get there which again affects their behaviour in the process. But what mindful thinking is, is focusing on what’s now. It’s knowing what’s going on inside and outside of ourselves moment by moment. It’s reconnecting with our bodies and allowing to see the present much more clearly which as an outcome can affect as positively especially in terms of how we see our bodies and our lives.
Although mindfulness is said to not be the answer for everything, it can be practiced anywhere and can be especially helpful in moments when you suddenly feel trapped in re-living your past problems or trying to pre-live your worries in the future. It is important that a mindful thinking is not just all about trying to forget all these thoughts but rather, trying to see these events as just mental events from your pasts.
I specifically like the thought of mindfulness and how it focuses on the present because that’s what we’re living on and we just need to enjoy the moment than worrying about things that has happened or hasn’t even happened yet. Enjoy the present before it passes you by because time goes, without you even realising it. It may seem slow but it does fly and you just realise later where it’s gone and you’ve wasted most of it trap in what hasn’t even happened yet or what’s already happened.

i had heard of mindfullness but i didnt really know how to do it. As i have autism i struggle with stressing ect so i did try it myself. I tried thinking of now instead of what will happen or the past, but i didnt feel myself feel any different? Maybe i did but just didnt feel like it.. or maybe i didnt pay it long enough attention to see if it worked.. im not too sure :S
